Dockworkers Stay on Job Despite Contract’s Expiration
Published Jul 02, 2008

A contract covering more than 25,000 dockworkers and their employers expired on July 1, 2008, but cargo continues to move through 29 West Coast ports.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported on July 2 that talks were ongoing between the International Longshore Warehouse Workers Union and the San Francisco-based Pacific Maritime Association. The talks began on March 17.

The Chronicle said there has been agreement on health care benefits but not on wages, pensions, safety and productivity.
