Web Exclusive Content Statewide Competition Will Reward Entrepreneurs
Published May 27, 2009

No one can argue that entrepreneurs love a good challenge – and especially when free publicity and cash prizes are involved. That’s the idea behind the California Business Ascent, a statewide business competition designed to spur innovation, entrepreneurship, jobs and prosperity among startup companies.

Structured somewhat like network television’s “Survivor” series, the California Business Ascent consists of a series of business contests leading to a substantial cash prize for the winner. The contest will draw participants from regions across the state, and regional finalists and runners-up will compete for the statewide championship at the Business Ascent finals in San Diego on Nov. 17-18, 2009.

“The competition will be very inspirational and motivating for entrepreneurs, as that segment of the population enjoys almost more than anything the war stories and success stories from their peers and successful company executives,” says Jon Gregory, president of Golden Capital Network, which is producing the contest with the state. “What entrepreneurs find very entertaining is the opportunity to connect with other entrepreneurs. By creating an environment where we make that process easy for them, the initiative is able to add huge value to the inspiration and motivation component.”

During each month of the competition, contestants will receive coaching sessions on networking, knowledge sharing and business development. They also will forge strategic connections inside and outside their region with their peers as well as potential customers, vendors, investors, service providers and advisors.

The initial application fee is $20, and entry deadlines vary by region. For eligibility requirements, entry deadlines and more information, visit www.businessascent.com
