Aahh, the sweet smell of success.

Sun Valley Group Inc. in Arcata (Humboldt County) is one of the largest growers of flowers west of the Mississippi River. The company originated in Oregon in the early 1960s when a high school agriculture teacher and one of his students established a 5-acre farm of irises and daffodils.

Toward the end of the ’60s, the business was transplanted to Arcata, where the cool coastal climate and the fertile soil are ideal for growing bulb flowers and seasonal field crops.

Things began to truly blossom in 1999 when the company entered the national bouquet market with its now-popular line of Sun Pacific Bouquet flowers.
